Harris Cousins, Memorial Day

Another attept at getting a picture of the Harris Grandkids.
They were having fun playing in the back of Pops' truck.
Turned out pretty cute!

Memorial Day Visit @ H&G's

We took Chip, Debbie and Lindsay over to Hidy and Gigi's on Memorial Day to let the kids all get to play in the backyard and have some lunch. Maya and Lindsay had fun going up the ramp and down the slide many times.

LaLa reads to several little girls!

Lindsay, Maya, and Zoe dance and play in the hallway... Lindsay doesn't look so sure in this picture.

Paloma is sharing her snack with Lindsay... Lindsay preferred to feed herself.

Finally all the little girls, Lindsay, Zoe, Maya, and Paloma enjoy watermelon together. LOTS of girls all within about 5 months of each other!!

Farm - Fishing!!

Mason was really excited to get to go fishing again this year at the farm. We weren't sure it was going to happen because all of the rain. But, there was just enough of a break that we got to ride on the tractor / trailer over to the tank to "wet a hook." It did sprinkle on us, but not bad at all.

Maya caught her first fish! She was very interested in "petting" all the fish that were caught, pointing out their eyes, mouth, etc., then throwing them back. She even stuck her finger way down one fishies' mouth!

Mason caught 10 or more fish. EVERYtime the line dropped a fish bit. They were little fish, but they were hungry!

Farm, Photo Op & More

Grandmother desperately wanted to get a picture with her Grandchildren for her annual Christmas card. That is easier said than done with a 4, 2, and 1 year old!!!!

Here are some attempts at just the 3 kids....

Paula really enjoys playing with the kiddos!

Thank you to Paula, Susan, Fran, Charlie and John for all the hard work, great food, and a fun, fun day!

Farm, "Katie"

Brian's cousin, Paul, brought his 9 week old puppy, "Katie," to the reunion.
Naturally, she was a big hit with everyone, and especially M&M.

After lunch, Katie had fallen asleep on the floor, and Mason wanted Grandmother to read a book to her.
Not long after storytime, Maya decided to cuddle up with Katie.

Katie liked Maya's ruffle skirt! This picture is so sweet of Katie looking up at Maya!

Down on the Farm, part 1

We went to the 2nd annual Fry Family reunion at the Farm.
Chip, Debbie and Lindsay came in town Saturday to stay with us for the long weekend.
Sunday morning we headed up to the farm for the reunion. There were lots of outdoor plans on the agenda, but the rain kept most of us in for the day. Paula, Susan, and Fran (Grandmother) tooks lots of time and put much thought into the planning for this day.

They even got a spool that the kids could paint. They LOVED getting into the paints. They made some beautiful artwork! They each had their own Home Depot apron to help keep their clothes clean.

Recall before I said most of us stayed where it was dry....well, this started out innocently enough. Mason remembered last year watering the flowers with a watering can...so he wanted to do it again, even though God was taking care of the flowers with all the rain. Mason was filling up the can with the water dripping from the roof like he saw Grandmother do not long before.

But this is how it ended...and let me tell you, it was not that warm outside, so the boy was pretty cold since he was drenched in rain water. He did have fun doing it, though.
It was a good thing I had some dry clothes for him.

Emmitt 1995-2007

Our dog, Emmitt, died tonight. We are going to miss him so much. He was a very good dog.

My college roommate, Dina, and I got Emmitt from a pet store in Lubbock, Tx in 1995. Not long after, if I remember correctly, the dog was given to Brian because Dina's parents were not happy about having a dog in the house we were renting from them. After college, Brian joined the U.S.M.C., and while he was away, Fran and Charlie took care of the "E-Man." He was quite spoiled living with them, often getting eggs for breakfast! But he loved it! In 2000 when Brian and I were married, Emmitt came to live with us.

Emmitt was a good natured dog, who didn't jump up on people, didn't do a lot of licking, you could say he was polite. He did do some barking - especially when people came to our door or walked to close to the fence, but that was security, so I didn't mind. In fact, he was my protector when Brian was gone. Although he was a sweet dog, he had a mean bark that often scared even grown men.

Emmitt broke many fence pickets in his day. He hated thunder and fireworks, so if ever he was caught outside and heard those things, he would break out. Brian called him "Blackdini" because sometimes his escapes were magical! We are lucky he was never killed while out on his excursions. He always got back home, sometimes a little injured, but always home where he belonged.

He was there for the birth of both of our children. Mason and Maya adored him. Just tonight while Maya was eating her dinner Emmitt came near her and she said "I love Emmitt!" Grandmother and Pops had been at the house and Emmitt played with them. Mason loved on him, too. I had taken the kids upstairs for bath and had the water running when I heard what sounded like a scream. A moment later, I thought I heard Emmitt howl, so I ran downstairs to see what was the matter. Many thoughts crossed my mind, like maybe he was howling because he heard sirens, or the thunder, or maybe he had gotten his head stuck in Maya's highchair where he eats crums everynight... but I found him laying on the tile, not moving. I tried to wake him, but he was not breathing... I became hysterical and Mason came down.

Mason asked a lot of questions, "is he dead," "are you going to call the doctor," "can you fix him," ... I just cried and cried. He hugged me, patted my back and said "it's okay Momma," "try to be brave," "calm down," "try to stop crying, okay?" He can't know how much his little 4 year old words meant to me. In the midst of all of this I called my in-laws to come back and I called my parents to come over.

Emmitt had a good long life, and we are surely going to miss him.

Storytime

Some of Maya most favorite books, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and "Polar Bear, Polar Bear" are read together by Maya and Paloma, a.k.a. P-Lo!

Then they decide to read them with Gigi.

That's my Boy

Mason's class had a special "Mother's Tea" just before Mother's day. I took off work early to attend, and what a special afternoon it was. Mason was so genuinely happy to see me. The kids all came in and had a specific spot to stand near where each of their Mother's was sitting. They sang several sweet songs with a little choreography. One was "You are my Sunshine" and it made me cry. Between each song he would wave and say "Hi Momma," or "I love you Momma!" They had put a neat video together and we had cake and punch.
Mason worked on a scrapbook all year long that was a gift to me. It is very special. I love it! And I love my sweet boy so much.

These are some of Mason's good buddies at school. In the first picture, Jack, who we hear about often! And in the last picture Cole and Paxton.
