Mom is Retiring

My Mom is retiring at the end of this school year. Friday night was the employee banquet for her district. My sisters and I got babysitters and Lauren joined us to go to the banquet with my Mom and Dad.

Dinner was some sort of smoked steak stuffed with a cream cheese and spinach or something green mixture. It was okay, but I am only giving you the detail for the story that follows. We were like the misfits in the corner all night laughing and cutting up. I didn't imagine that the banquet could be so fun. The service award pins had begun to be given out. Allison and Lauren excused themselves to the ladies room. While in there, Lauren was waiting for Allison. Two women were talking to each other as they looked in the mirror. One woman said "Oh, I have broccoli in my teeth," the other woman responds, "I have pepper in my teeth." Allison walks up to the 2 women she does not know and says, "Oh, is that what that was???? We were wondering about that?" The women look at her curiously and don't respond. Lauren is in shock. Lauren and Allison walk outside of the ladies room.... Lauren in a reprimanding tone "MOTHER!!!!!" Allison says "What?" Lauren said, "they were talking about what was in their teeth!!!!" Allison assumed they were talking about what had been stuffed in the meat!!!! These women probably thought she was so rude! Lauren told me the story as they sat back down at the table. I laughed so hard and then shared the story with everyone else at the table. Hilarious. Not long later, my Mom was presented with her crystal bowl retirement gift. There was a laugh from the crowd as she received it and had her picture made. They tried to take her picture with her only holding the wooden base for the bowl. A man on the stage had offered to carry the heavy bowl for her. Once back at the table, the bowl sat right in front of her. She accidently hit the bowl with a utensil, I believe and it made a pretty loud "dongggggg." She was embarrassed as people looked toward us to see what the noise was. Minutes later, my Dad asks for us to pass the coffee pot. As it is passed, I said "don't hit the bowl," but as he poored the coffee, he did... Yes, again "donggggg" You probably had to be there, but it was pretty funny, too!

Mom - sorry if we embarrassed you - but we are really proud of you! We hope you will enjoy your retirement!! We know you will. LOTS OF LOVE!

Angi -- thanks for sending me the pictures... the last one is of Allison and Lauren. Lauren looked adorable in her polk a dot dress. Her shoes had heels taller than mine, though!!! I don't know how she walked in them!
